My Last Blog here, say hi, no bye bye:)

August 22nd, 2011

It’s been a fruitful journey for me at POWER98. I’ve never stopped loving the station even when I was a part-time DJ between 2008-2010 simply as a host for TPC (The Power98 Countdown that is). 2002-2011 must be my longest record of employment in my career history hehehe! Well, technically it’s 9 years but, coz I left back then, I believe it’s been 14+months since I’ve re-joined the station.

Thanks for the support all these years. I’m humbled by your warm support and by placing our EDT (Evening Drive Time) 5-8P.M. show “The Rush” at the peak of the AC Nielsen survey. All we simply did on the show was be real, be ourselves, and reach out to you in our most sincere manner. Thanks as well for putting TPC as your favourite weekend chart show when I know you can/may have better plans on a Sunday between 6-9P.M. I honestly believe that it’s not the position of the tracks that I’ve played that matters, but that your favourites are charted and that it’s simply there – just keeping it real.

I’ve packed my bags, all set to go. You know it’s a good time to leave when you’re heart is at peace. I actually feel like I’m lifted by some kind of a divine being, air-lifting me to a land that I have no idea where it’s going. Perhaps that’s why they call it faith. Yep, I’m throwing my faith to this Second Wind and it just feels soooo good! (Steven Tyler’s song ringing in my head!)

Hope to catch you again soon. You may catch me holding a mic somewhere here in SG, just say hi and I promise I’ll throw ya a bigger smile or even a hug If you’re into that too hehe! I’ll be producing more original music, I may form a band, well, yeah – radio will always be in my heart, you may just hear me again. But, not yet:)

While I’m writing this, LIVE LIKE WE’RE DYING from Kris Allen’s in my head… (and so are other songs:)
“Yeah… gotta start
lookin’ at the hand of the time we’ve been given here
this is all we got and we gotta start thinkin’ if
every second counts on a clock that’s tickin’
gotta live like we’re dying
Yeah we got
86 400 seconds in a day to
turn it all around or throw it all away
we gotta tell ‘em that we love ‘em
while we got the chance to say
gotta live like we’re dying..”

God Bless You!

Song in my head – Every Little Thing by Dishwalla (lyrics & video provided)

The RHCP video and tune for “Rollecoaster” was one
stuff that’s been overlooked and truly underrated by
many. I personally love both the video and song!

I’m a chicken when it comes to joyrides like
Cyclone, Battlestar, Rollercoaster…
My eldest – Hannah, boasts a record of 12x
riding Universal Studios’ rollercoaster!
She could’ve done more but due to time
limit, as we say here ” cannot.” If only she keeps
the same attitude when she’s fixing her homework,
her homework? Another story to tackle next:)

I believe in music line that says “life is a
rollercoaster, you just gotta ride it…”

Mario here – just another passenger.

My Favourite Music Video at the moment

I believe the scenes were real-life images from S.E.A and some other parts of the world.
It’s inspirational, it’s moving, it’s fab!

Rest in peace Mumpy….

July 13th, 2011

It’s old news. But this piece of story still moves me whenever I recall it.

Twelve-year-old Mumpy Sarkar ended her own life in an attempt to donate organs to her father and brother, but was cremated before her suicide note detailing her wishes was found.

The young girl from eastern India decided that suicide was the only way she could help her family, who couldn’t afford eye surgery to save her father’s vision and a kidney transplant to save her brother’s life, reports The Times of India.

She’s 12years old. She is Mumpy Sarkar. the child who killed herself on June 27th but her wishes were not able to be carried out. Her suicide note was only found the day after she was cremated.

She told her older sister about her plan and urged her to join her for the “cause,” but her sister “laughed it off” and left for school. Mumpy drank pesticide and ran to tell her Dad that “she had dreamt that someone had poured poison into her mouth and her stomach ached.” The girl died later that day.

A local state council representative visited the family’s home and promised financial assistance for medical treatment for both Mumpy’s father and brother. But no one can bring Mumpy back to life…again…

I have kids and I love them soooo, very much! I’m broken and teary eyed while sharing this with you.
If by any chance you’re going through a rough patch in your life right now for whatever reason, I implore you, that taking your own life is never an option. Talk to a friend, to your most trusted Lecturer, colleauge or mentor, perhaps your Priest or Preacher – anyone.

I’d lie to you if I say I’m not going through a rough patch myself. My Mother hit her head on the gutter some years back and we were suppose to fly back together here in Singapore to spend Christmas together with my family here. I’m in tears while writing these lines. But, this accident happened to my 78 year old Mom.
What I don’t even understand is that, she simply wanted to go to Church. To date, I ask God “Why my Mother? Why Nanay? She just wanted to visit your house of worship? Where are your Angels when she needed them the most?” But, God was silent. I have not heard from the heavens what or why or whatever is the purpose of this tragedy. But, one thing I know is that I’m more close to my sisters more than ever.

Embrace life. There’s so much we can do to make this world a much better place to live in.

With tears rolling down my cheeks while writing this – Super Cry Baby, SuperMario!

The Next Susan Boyle?

July 1st, 2011

Why not yah? This video made me feel a little emo actually. sob-sob-sob!

I had a chat with Mabel on this tonight on The Rush. Hitting high notes doesn’t mean you gotta stretch your neck but actually compose yourself, chin down, use your diaphragmatic breathing technic, drop your jaw, open your mouth. That’s how you hit your high notes or simply take it from Cindy’s video.

My Primary School Days

June 29th, 2011

G means Grade. In Manila we call it Grade when you’re in your Primary years in school. P1-6 simply means G1-6 or Grades 1 to 6.

To date, I’m still haunted by my G2 or primary 2 form (adviser) teacher’s mad way of disciplining kids at that time. In the old days, Teachers can technically hurt their pupils. I was one of those pupils! I still believe it’s not right to humiliate and hurt your students (or kids) in front of the whole class.

Have you ever been hurt or humiliated by any of your school Teachers in the past? How did you deal with it?
Are you over it?

Less working hours, more babies?

June 16th, 2011

Hello there, how have you been? I’d assume you either work too hard or study quite hard.
Well, according to a survey, when it comes to slave drivers or bad employers and yeah, disloyal employees, sunny SG wasn’t favoured. Another report has revealed that Asian (Singaporean) Employers are more likely to bug their employees and subordinates even if it’s past their office hours and even if they’re on a break or a holiday, demanding that “they should attend” that so-called “it” at work no matter what!

I was in central China just about a week ago and apparently, like some of our European friends, they observe a similar “siesta time” most especially in the central and other big cities there. For lack of a better definition, SIESTA in the U.S. is simply a “power nap.” In Chinese, it’s called “Wujiao.” Proof of this is the photo above. It’s from their Ministry Of Foreign Investment office.

One of my University Professors gave us this unfounded theory in our Sociology class, “love-making happens a lot during Siesta time.” Hmmm….I wonder If this has been given any consideration to make more babies here.

So, If your Boss or office allows you to “Wujian”, take it. It’s a privilege, grab it! It’s good for your mind, body, and soul. Great for the SG population too – well, perhaps!

Hope you’re now able to view the slides I’ve edited above:)

Hot Water for $3.90?

June 10th, 2011

I’ve been meaning to post this for sometime now, just keep forgetting to hit “publish!!”
We’ll we’ve all heard about it. C’mon, $3.90 for hot water? In Sunny SG?
Like Joanne Peh, I won’t pay $3.90 for hot water! Unless it’s a legit sparkling water or real spring water. Our air crew remembered how their staff (this chicken resto’s Bugis outlet) told us before that they’re not smiling coz they’re stressed?! Huh? w-what?
This branch at Tanglin Mall was a much better outlet than the one at Bugis. I actually wrote to them in the past to improve their service via their FB page.

Pro service training and real hunger to really serve are of significance here. Word!

Two thumbs up spots that serve both hot and cold water – FOC:
1) Zhou’s Kitchen, Anchorpoint.
I’ve expressed my disappointment to one Manager there and somehow, my request has been heard!
2) NYDC – all outlets! Water with a hint of lemon, nice!
3) Most 5 star hotels especially Mandarin Hotel, Orchard @ Triple Three. The staff there are on the ball!

Why GLEE is such a hit?

May 20th, 2011

The kids I know thought “Don’t Stop Believin” is a Glee original.
The list goes on, countless covers whether you and I think
or feel otherwise about ‘em as ok or butchered is subjective.
Opinions are to be respected and it’s almost similar to comparing
Beliebers to the non or anti-Bieber. Gleeks or anti-Glee.
Yahoo, reflects my sentiments about the show. I personally thought
Season 1 was more interesting than Season 2.

It’s like what Harry our A.M.DJ felt about American Idol.
The audition episodes were more intersting than when
the hopefuls are on stage with all their weird hairdo and un-fash
outfit and costumes! Same stuff on GLEE. Season 2 seems
to be overdoing it. Yeah, Paltrow and Morisson’s version of “Kiss” by
Prince isn’t bad. But, how long are they gonna be able to sustain the creative covers of the classics? If there’s something I’d praise the arrangers for, It would be the wise retention and the decent take of staying as close as possible to the original sounds of the classics yet making it sound fresh. The failure to me is that when it sounds very “choir-eeeweee.” If there’s such a word.

Then again, for a show that kicked American Idol on viewership
previously, it’s safe to say that GLEE’s audience is from 5 to perhaps 55. Don’t take my numbers seriously, I’m a Mass-Comm Degree holder not an Accounting Grad;)
