Casuarina Curry @ 126 Casuarina Rd (off Upper Thomson)Also @ Soulfood @ Matrix Biopolis, 30 Biopolis St (along North Buona Vista) |
If you like your prata crispy, this is the stall to check out. Their stall @ Casuarina Rd has been there for ages! And check out the pictures of famous celebs and even ministers that grace the wall!
They do my fav kosong bawang (onion prata) so well! It’s stretched into a long rectangular shape, almost A4 size. It’s paper-thin, crispy and peppered with onions. Dip it in the assam fish sauce and I guarantee it’ll put a smile on your face.
They do some other interesting combinations like cheese prata, mushroom prata, or chicken floss prata.

Gordon's Katong Vadai @ Si Qi Na Coffeeshop, 936 East Coast Road |
Their tagline says it all! ‘Better than Bedok, Farrer Park and Geylang Serai’! A great teatime snack, this Indian snack is done best by this Chinese owner! For the uninitiated, vadai is fried flour with spices and a prawn on top. Using a fresh round of healthier vegetable oil each day, only a minimum is fried at each time, making certain that each order is fresh! There’s no stale oil taste, unlike many other places, and the fresh green chili served with it gives it a nice crunchy spicy edge. At only 60 cents per piece, it’s hard to stop at just one.
They also serve Chicken Risso, which is fried pastry with chicken stew filling (nice chunky chicken pieces). Using an Indonesian recipe, each piece is only $1.50 and a great addition to your snack tray! They’re open from 12 noon to 930pm and they accept advance orders as well!

Syed Restoran @ 324 Bedok Road (beside Shop & Save, Simpang Bedok) |
Here's the mother of all 'sarabat' stalls! These guys have been there for the longest time and they've moved with the times and taken their dishes with them! Not content with serving the standard fare of all mediocre prata stalls, they've taken the classic plain prata and an age-old beverage and added a whole new 'oomph' to them!
The Prata Bomb is in a class of its own! I was skeptical at first cause the name reveals nothing of what I was to expect. However, my first bite into it got me wondering why this didn't come any sooner! The prata bomb is basically a plain prata but with honey in it! If you're one of those savory-cannot-mix-with-sweet advocates, think again cause the prata bomb is a perfect blend of the two! The curry for dipping is also very tasty and the 3 (prata, honey, curry) complement each other perfectly to leave you wanting more!
The Milo Dinosaur is another concoction that shouldn't have taken so long to come about! It is your standard 'milo-peng' but with a heap of Milo powder topping the drink off! Milo lovers will go crazy over this super thick iced-milo and for newcomers, it is the best way to be introduced to one of the longest-surviving beverages in Singapore! The Milo Dino should come with a warning label though "Risk of sounding like Rod Stewart if more than one is consumed at one single seating"!
